The DMV website states..

"Sales Taxes are not collected on private party vehicle sales that occurred on or after January 1, 2006. On private sales that occurred in 2005 or earlier, sales taxes are paid to DMV based either on the depreciated Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) or a vehicle appraisal."

However they do not specify if this is for instate, or both in/out of state.

Anyone know for sure, looking at cars out of state and this will save me about $2k right off the top.

Call DMV and find out.

Private party bought in any state= no sales tax(for Nevada residents). Out of state dealer purchase= SALES TAX when you try to register the car.

Exactly, the sales tax on private party sales pre 2006 was paid at the time that you register your car, now you don't pay sales tax at the time that you register your car, so no sales tax.

Just wanted to add to this...

Dealer purchase (even used) regardless of the state = SALES TAX
