Full Version: Feds indict smog techs

Just a heads up ... got a call from a friend at a law firm who said that 10 local smog technicians were federally indicted for issuing fake certificates. Not that anyone here would need them ...

On a side note also learned that if you convert your car to E85 and have it certified at a DMV emissions station (E Sahara) that you will be exempt from NV emissions testing.

I figured out how to do carb motors if anyone needs the info and here is a map of stations ... http://www.finde85fuel.com

Is this in addition to the big bust a few months ago?

Does that E85 conversion apply to all year cars?

Might be part of that I dont know how recent these indictments are. The guy who legitimately smoged our cars was amongst those indicted and we just heard from him.

Cool info Lou. I too am interested in the E85 conversion/exemption.

Looks like this indictment happened in Jan.

And its second hand info but supposedly any vehicle confirmed to be running on alternative fuel receives an exemption which stays with the VIN. Might want to independently verify before doing it but I will probably be taking my shit over to try this out shortly ... my car passes smog even on gas but last attempt they wouldn't do it because it kept vibrating the probe out of the pipe ... lol.

As far as stations ... there may be more than whats on that map. But if its a DD and your looking to travel it might be a hassle. Hoping that site I put up lights a fire under peoples ass to fill in the gaps.

Update. The emissions exemption is only available CNG conversions and not liquid fuels so E85 does not qualify.
