So as you all know I'm looking at the Caddillac CTS-V, right now what I'm seeing is that the 2006's with the LS2 are going for about $3000 to $3500 more than the 2005's with the LS6. Even in some cases when the 2005 has fewer miles.

So which would you buy, if you were buying a CTS-V,

2005 CTS-V with 15k miles for $30k (LS6)

or

2006 CTS-V with 20k Miles for $33.5k (LS2)

The LS2 has the LS6 Heads/Intake and the Pre 01 385hp Z06 LS6 Cam from what I understand.

The LS2 kind of is an LS6... just more displacement wink.gif

I think..

Here is some reading for ya..

The LS2 is in a way more an LS6 than anything at all. Given the fact that it shares identical LS6 heads and a 2001 Z06 cam. The revlimit is likewise 6,600 and the compression has been raised to 10.9:1. The LS2 incorporates a 90mm throttle body and has an entirely new (not so great) PCM.

Actually...
Hemi > LS2
but...
LS2 PCM tuning >>>>> Hemi PCM tuning

There's a few companies making some great N/A power with the Hemi motors, hopefully as the predator tuning options work themselves out some better boost packages will be developed. I can't blame anyone for not wanting to wait for "maybes". I'm hoping that the rumors of the 392ci crate showing up in the 2009 models comes true...

form what i know your right art, the ls2 just really has more displacement, and i dont think the ls6 it fly by the wire throttle.
ArthurJGuy
No the LS6 is not drive by wire, at least not in the Z06 its not.. no clue on the caddy.

The LS2 is also the worst LSx intake out for a car, even the LS1 and LS6 intakes are better, the intake ports are seriously WAY smaller then the head ports... other then that... its a big ass LS6..

Honestly, I think I'd rather have the LS6 CTS-V

The heads are different on the LS6 vs the LS2, the LS6 has lightweight sodium filled valves, they're not drive by wire.

The LS6 CTS-V are actually a couple ticks quicker in the 1/4 than the LS2 version, and modifications for both are plentiful, but the LS6 currently has more out there....not that that really matters since you can do anything you want with either, but its true, lol.

From what i understand the Ls6 is a Gen 3 346cu and the LS2 is a Gen 4 364. I would buy the car with the lower mileage. Any LSX engine has great potential. The power differences aren't much at all. HEMIs are very overrated.

LS6 is of course a Gen III 5.7, same as the C5 Z06 vette
LS2 is a Gen IV 6.0

How do you come to that assumption?

All LS1/2/6/7/9 in Corvettes are fly by wire, so are all LS6/2 in CTS-v.

I would get the cheapest LS6/2 as they dyno within each other stock and mod for mod they are very similiar. Shit the difference is only .3 liters, I splooge more then that on a good day unsure.gif

The only reason I would want an LS2 would be for L92/LS3 heads sine they flow so gawd damn well stock (the intake flows as good or better then ported stage 2 LS1/2/6 heads). But I would rather get LQ4/9 heads and go FI, hence my $23K LS6 CTS-v purchase.

i could have swore the real hemi heads havent been used since the 70s and it was originally a ford creation. daimler chrysler just adopted the name. i maybe wrong but i would still say im a solid 90% sure of that

Holy old thread, Batman!

Ford did make at least one Hemi motor - one of my friends here in town has a rod with a 427 Ford Hemi in it.

The modern Mopar Hemi is somewhat of a wanna-be... It isn't a true hemispherical head like the vintage blocks, but is hemispherically shaped enough that they could use the name from a marketing standpoint. Obviously the marketing campaign worked very well...

hypnotic
The 427 wasnt a hemi it was a "cammer", The " boss 429" was a hemi that they used in nascar and some mustangs like the Boss 429 mustang.

oops - had the c.i. wrong - I know the engine they have in the rod is a Ford Hemi...

if your going to compare the hemi to an ls motor why dont you go with the all around package... a hemi is more expensive to mod... and the ls will probably do a lot better on gas from what ive seen and arent some of those cadillacs available in 6 speed manuals as well... a lot more advantages to getting the cadillac in my opinion
