Boosted Goat FTW!
Yep, old parts have to go to make way for new parts.
Twin T3 60mm with .63 a/r rear mounted (think STS style) - being custom fabbed by Brian and Myself as an experimental project to see if we can do it. Ha, experimental project with a $30,000 car, and boosting on a 10.9:1 CR - I must be loopy.

Art, you're f'ing nuts.
Good luck with the project, I personally could not stand to have my car that I just bought down as long as it's going to take to put that system together.

It shouldn't be down too long if we do it in phases, if it is - I have the exploder..

Brian and I both know its a huge learning curve here. I've been talking to a LOT of ppl about this, I have very few "ifs" in my head now.
The design is mostly mine, the fab work mostly his, and we will colaborate on a few things in between.
Designwise, think the rear of an STS kit and the front of an APS kit. It should be able to be fabricated in phases and tested and troubleshot before tuning the car. It will be a very very low boost setup at first (as low as I can get it) until I know exactly how much $$$ I have in reserves so I know how much I can light the wic..

I've been talking to the guy who owns the car that I'm basing most of my kit off of.
He is running twin 60mm's with a .60 a/r so VERY VERY close to what I'll be running, mine may spool 50 RPM's later, BFD.
I've also found some nice FMIC intercoolers online that are a little bigger then the standard GTO STS unit for a good price on ebay.

For the intercooler why don't you get the biggest one you can find like the one I have from APS and put that in there. You will loose a max of 1psi and is rated for some major power and it has two in and one out.

APS wont sell it to me, I talked to peter today.
I was trying to buy that as well as the IC piping and unless I have proof of reciept and proof my car was in an accident I cant buy em..

No... I think they don't want people buying the intercooler and copying their setup for half the price.

I'm going to order the intercooler tonight my choices are..
31x12x3 rated at 600hp
or
31x12x4 rated at 800hp
If the 4 core will fit, thats my choice, waiting to hear back from the gurus on the GTO forum.. I know the STS production kit uses a weak ass 28x7.5x3 so this should be a one up for sure.
ArthurJGuy
Feb 8 2008, 01:43 PM
Because of the vast amount of intake pipe this kit has, I'm going to go with the 3" core.
swoosh-stang
Feb 8 2008, 02:22 PM
Is it 3" core or 3 cores?
Wasn't sure about that one. I remember reading that some of the rear-mount kits didn't even really need an intercooler because they have so much pipe from the turbo to the intake that the exchange of heat along said pipe is enough.
I didn't buy it then and don't now, I'm thinking you should go ahead and get the largest capacity intercooler that you can. That way as you up the boost, as you lose your mind, you have enough intercooler to handle it.
ArthurJGuy
Feb 8 2008, 02:29 PM
It's a 3" core.

Just picked up two 38mm X02Racing wastegates, adjustable springs from 7.5PSI - 15PSI. I'll probably order a weaker spring 7.5 is too much for this car right now..
The guys on turbomustangs.com say that the X02 is actually a Tial but its half the price because it doesn't have the name on it.
w00t..
Oh, and i ordered the 3" core intercooler on Friday..

Intercooler was delivered last night, wastegates are headed to my office today.
Picked these up just now off evilbay.
Pair of Garrett T04E "57 Trim" hairdryers, with a P trim wheel, .81 a/r hotside.
mmmmm, sexy...

8MYDUST
Feb 14 2008, 12:15 PM
I hope those won't be too big being that they are FAR away from the motor and those are per bank. When I had the STS the 67trim I wouldn't start boosting until 3500 rpm in third and that was both banks to one turbo.
ArthurJGuy
Feb 14 2008, 12:26 PM
I was slightly worried about that also, if it is I'll have to change a few things... its a learning process..
ArthurJGuy
Feb 14 2008, 12:33 PM
I'm told the STS C5Z06 kit uses those exact turbos, only with a T3 .63 a/r - mine are a .81 a/r T4, may have a little swappin around to do.

Not claiming to be an expert, but since they work on the expansion. wrap everything up tight all the way to the turbo, and hold that heat in. As i said this is from reading ZombieSS tell about his one huge turbo. LOL
ArthurJGuy
Feb 14 2008, 12:46 PM
Definatly planned on the wrap, gotta keep that heat.
Also found out that STS uses this exact turbo, with the .81 in the TBSS only in a single setup...

I found a shop that will trade me my T4 .81ar hotside's straight up for my choice of brand new T4 .58ar or T4 .68ar housings, I just have to pay shipping.
I think I am going to take the .58's
ArthurJGuy
Feb 25 2008, 11:11 AM
Well, the turbo's are in the mail somewhere - or they had better be at least.
I decided on going to the .58 a/r hotside because this kit is a remote mount after all.
I hooked the wastegates up to my compressor over the weekend, the spring rates are all jacked. A little searching on turbomustangs told me that this brand w/g comes with random springs that are not color coded at all.
I'm ordering some Tial springs for it, probably the 3.6 PSI springs so I can use the boost controller to choose between 6 PSI, and KILL!
BTW, I moved this out of the multimedia section since its more of a build log now then anything else...
