Anyone running 4:10 gears in there Stang? would like to get them and would like to know what people think of them.

What other mods are done to the car?

Gears should definitely not be your first mod.

The S197 mustangs respond very well to Intake exhaust mods.

I would suggest either the JLT or C&L racer intake, a Bamachips tune, and O/R X-pipe, and a good axleback (Borla, Magnaflow, Bassani)

Those mods should get you to around 300whp maybe a bit more.

A shifter, good tires, preferably DR's, lower control arms and then gears.

Or you could skip the CAI and just got boosted, then you're talking a pretty fast car. With a Whipple, KB, Procharger, Vortech or Paxton as long as you're intercooled, you should be abel to get 450whp pretty easily.

However, if you have an auto, my first two mods would be tires and Gears. The five speed autos+4.10s are a perfect combination.

Swoosh, what are you talking about? Gears are a GREAT first mod.

I had 3.90 gears in my 04 GT and they were by far my favorite mod, and one of my firsts.

The 3.90's got the same performance as the 4.10's but dropped the RPM's on the highway a few hundred.

You will loose a little on the dyno but if you can hook up, you will gain on the track.

Obviously my vehicle/engine profile is significantly different from a Mustang, but I've always enjoyed gear swaps. I had 4.10's in a previous truck, and this one has 4.56's. I'd love to put a set of 4.10's in my Charger, but I have to wait for the aftermarket to come up with a solution since the fucktard engineers at Chrysler built the system in such a way that the traction control goes haywire if you're using anything except for the OEM 3.08 ratio.

If you only plan on installing a couple of bolt-ons then a gear swap can be beneficial, but if you're in it for the long haul then IMHO you should wait until near the end to install a set of gears (or install a torque converter, if you're using an auto transmission) so you can get an accurate powerband profile. Having the proper gear/stall can make a huge difference at the track.

It's a five speed manual trans, I hear the 4:10's make a world of difference, I have to make up my mind quick fathers day is comming.

If you can get traction, if you get the speedometer recalibrated, if you dont plan any major mods and just bolt ons - 3.90 or 3.73 you will not be dissapointed. 4.10 may be a bit much..

Maybe I didn't come across well, gears are useless with out sticky tires. What good does it do to increase your mechanical advantage to tires that won't hold up to the stock configuration?

This I agree with 110%

Many people do gears and loose performance, because they lost traction.

Traction? What's that? I finally got that taken care of at the track, but I wish I had more on the street. I dunno if it's possible without swapping to some monstrous drag radial setup.
